Police nab trio trailing bank customers

first_imgThe Police on Saturday arrested three men, suspected of being part of a gang associated with a number of robberies. The men were arrested at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday afternoon after a businessman called the Police from a gas station to report that he suspected he was being trailed by a car after leaving a commercial bank.According to Commander of A Division Clifton Hicken, after the man made the report, the Police intercepted the car, with licence PPP 2662 along the East Bank roadway. The three occupants attempted to escape by exiting the car and boarding a minibus, however, the Police managed to apprehend them. They were taken into custody where they are currently assisting with investigations.According to information, the men are suspected of being involved in a number of robberies where persons were robbed after making large withdrawals at several banks.In the past, the Police had urged persons to exercise caution when making such transactions. Just last month, a man was robbed of a sum of cash at a store on Hadfield Street after being trailed from a bank.Additionally, on that same day a pastor was robbed of .4 million after he left a city bank and was heading home.Last year, Cane Grove rice farmer, Hardat Kissoon, was shot dead in a minibus at Turkeyen Access Road by a man who had trailed him from a city bank, where he had encashed a cheque for 0,000.A man was subsequently arrested and charged for that incident.last_img read more
