first_imgThe sporting season in Australia is in full swing at the moment with the cricket and tennis taking centre stage.The Australian Open just started in Melbourne a couple of days back just before the Australia-India ODI series which began last week.After the matches in Sydney and Adelaide, the ODI series now moves to Melbourne where both teams will be playing the series-deciding third match.With the Australian Open also being held in the same city, India cricketers Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar took this opportunity to catch up on some tennis action before starting preparations for Friday’s one-day international.The cricketers, along with Team India fitness trainer Shankar Basu, wasted no time in reaching Melbourne Park, where the year’s first Grand Slam tennis tournament is being played.The players got some time to cool off after a hard-fought win in the second ODI at Adelaide where India beat Australia by 6 wickets to level the three-match series 1-1.Rohit, who is the second highest scorer in the ODIs so far behind Shaun Marsh (185 runs) with 176 runs in two matches, scored 43 off 52 balls in the second match as the tourists rode on captain Virat Kohli’s 104 and MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 55 to chase down a challenging total of 299 with four balls to spare.Dinesh Karthik also made a significant contribution, scoring 25 not out off 14 balls.Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan (32) provided a brisk start to India after which Rohit and Kohli forged a 54 runs stand for the second wicket.advertisementKohli and Dhoni then added 82 runs for the fourth wicket but after Kohli’s untimely dismissal following his 39th ODI hundred, the former India captain took charge of the chase and carried India to a victory along with Karthik.India came to the final over needing seven runs to win and Dhoni smashed the first ball over the long straight boundaries at the Adelaide Oval for a six which tied the scores, then clinched the win with a single from the next ball.Dhoni was fortunate to have the heady support of Dinesh Karthik, who came to the crease at a difficult moment when Kohil had just fallen.
