Transfer Talk: Yakubu still at Maritzburg

first_imgMaritzburg United are still to conclude the deal of Yakubu Mohammed despite the Ghana striker appearing to have already settled in at the club.United have also invited Nigerian forward Dele Olorundane for an assessment.Mohammed was initially linked with a move to Orlando Pirates but that deal fell through due to fitness issues after coach Roger de Sa told KickOff.com that he only lasted just 30 minutes in his first training session with Bucs.He has now found himself chasing a contract at Maritzburg while Olorundane – currently playing for Sunshine Stars – is also due for a trial within the next couple of days.Farook Kadodia, the Maritzburg boss, says they are still yet to complete the signing of Mohammed and are also expecting Olorundane next week.“Not yet,” says Kadodia when asked about if Mohammed has signed. “He is still training and we will see how things go this weekend,” he says.Mohammed has been playing his football at Ashanti Gold where he still has a contract.Though Kadodia says they are yet to complete the signing of the Ghana forward word from the club’s training ground is that Mohammed has looked the part in being the club’s number 9 going into the new season.last_img read more

Jagdeo rubbishes Patterson’s remarks on renewable energy

first_img– reiterates importance of AFHP to green energy planOpposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has taken Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson to task over recent statements he made in regard to Government achieving its set renewable energy goals by the end of 2018.Jagdeo says Government’s plan is unrealistic and unachievable.Patterson has made a commitment to Guyanese that the country will be powered by 5 megawatts of renewable energy by year end; but Jagdeo has said this statement is “pure nonsense! Total nonsense! It’s a lie!”Jagdeo has said that with only six months to go before the end of 2018, he is uncertain where the proposed five megawatts of power will be sourced from. The only renewable energy project that is ongoing is located at Mabaruma in Region One, and this will produce less than half a megawatt of power.“Well, let me tell you something about the small solar units that they are putting in place…that it is a conduit for corruption, as I said before. It’s a conduit for corruption, nothing else,” Jagdeo declared. He explained that it is not a case where the people will get free electricity, but they are going to get it from another source.“I’m afraid that 2-3 years down the line, those systems will go down,” he added.Jagdeo has argued that the Amaila Falls Hydro Power Project (AFHP) is a lost opportunity for Guyanese to experience clean and cheap electricity. He maintains that the project remains the best option for Guyana, and would only result in huge benefits to the people and the local economy. The coalition Government had discontinued the AFHP project when it assumed office in 2015, but of recent has been speaking about plans to restart it.Minister Patterson recently provided updates on a number of multi-million-dollar hydro and solar- power projects that had seemingly been gathering dust. One such project is the Hope Wind Farm, facing criticism centred on the actual investor – proprietor of the International Pharmaceutical Agency (IPA), Lloyd Singh, who had acquired and built the headquarters of the Alliance for Change (AFC).According to Patterson, there have been some technical issues which had to be ironed out, such as the size of the development. He has, however, reported that there has been progress on that front, and the power purchase agreement is presently being finalised.Patterson also spoke of a US$3.8 million solar farm which will be constructed at Bartica with funds from the Inter-American Development Bank. He had said this will be completed by the end of 2018.Meanwhile, the private developer of the Tumatumari hydro project in Region Eight has been given a deadline to reach financial closure with investors. When all agreements have been signed and conditions met, dispensing of the funds will begin.Patterson has noted that if the developer, Tumatumari Hydro Inc, proves unable to meet the July month-end deadline set by the state for financial closure, Government would take over the project. When this newspaper contacted residents at Tumatumari on Friday, they reported that representatives from the Tumatumari Hydro Inc had met with them and had indicated they were awaiting an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval before they can move forward. The Opposition has long called for the reintroduction of the Amaila Falls Hydro Project for a number of important reasons. Jagdeo has said not only does the scrapping of the project threaten the forest pact agreement with the Kingdom of Norway, which could cause the country to lose out on another US$3 billion in savings, but it could assist Guyana to combat climate change. This project, the brainchild of Jagdeo, formed part of Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), and was commissioned in 2009. But having taken up office in 2015, the current Government had repeatedly stated its disapproval of resurrecting the project. The former President believes the coalition Government has killed the project, although it was set to provide Guyana with a massive source of electricity. An independent assessment of the project had revealed that the only realistic path for Guyana moving towards an emission-free electricity sector is by developing its hydropower potential, and the fastest way forward is to maintain this project.last_img read more

first_imgBeautiful bright colours, but they are tiny and i obtain them fiddly to use. These are just the correct size for my toddler’s hair.Improved than having to pay for delivery. Truly worth introducing to your buy to stay away from supply expenditures but not great on their have. Bit small and tight for a whole lot of hair but ok for pigtails.Perfect for kidsGreat pass the parcel gifts for controlling my 2 year old grand daughter’s very fine but long hairIdeal for very fine hairGreat for thin hairBetter than paying for delivery Fairly delighted with this set they are small elastics in bright colours good for my toddler’s hair. They do not have a steel connector which some elastics have, which signifies the hair is not caught on them. They stretched a minor soon after pair of months of use. Only 1 broke right after we experienced them for two months or so.Perfest dimensions, beautiful colours.Features of 20 Girls Bright Rainbow Small Hair Elastics/Bands IN8146one set suppliedTerrific mini-sized hair elastics – suited for wonderful hair. Following a number of works by using they are continue to in just one piece. These bands are excellent for a toddler who’s hair is only just receiving extensive plenty of, and is extremely high-quality, as they are very small (about two cm diameter). They are quite bright colors, and at this rate for 20, even if they do not very last that long, it is alright. They do not seem to be the most robust, but they are almost certainly far more likely to get misplaced before they break in any case. These had been substantially more compact then i believed they’d be and so can not be used to tie pretty much hair, but they colors are fantastic.I use them for pre college gymnastics courses and the girls there have fine slender hair and they are great, nonetheless anything at all previous shoulder size needs a bit greater bobbles. For controlling my 2 calendar year aged grand daughter’s very fine but very long hair. Spot on for controlling my two calendar year outdated grand daughter’s really wonderful but prolonged hair. I am about to purchase some more as the very last good deal have been applied and dropped around the months due to the fact i acquired them. They may possibly seem to be fragile but none of them broke.Excellent move the parcel presents. Break up the packs up that i requested to use in move the parcel at my daughter’s social gathering. Adorable colors and good for the price tag. These bands do not have the steel bit holding them jointly, the finishes are just form of caught or sealed together so i do not know but no matter if this will make a change to their longevity. Still a good offer nevertheless either way and went down very very well with the occasion attendees.Smaller than i envisioned, but have established helpful for pigtails and this kind of.My five year aged has thin shoulder duration hair, which i like to tie back again to stop the finishes heading like rats tails. These bands are just the right sizing and thickness for her hair.last_img read more

NZ confirms participation in CWG

first_imgAfter days of indecision, the New Zealand Olympic Committee on Friday confirmed participation in the Delhi Commonwealth Games after seeing positive steps being taken by the organisers to improve the situation.New Zealand Olympic Committee board gave its nod for the planned departures from September 28 after being briefed by NZOC President Mike Stanley and Secretary General Barry Maister, who were in Delhi to take stock of the situation.Staneley said the situation was grim but it has started changing following intervention by the state and the central governments. New Zealand’s CWG chef de mission Dave Currie, who had slammed the conditions at the Games Village and said the event could even be called off, is now “more optimistic” that things will be better. “Our responsibility is to ensure there is a safe, secure environment for the athletes to arrive in, but we want the Games to go ahead as do the athletes who have trained for a long time,” Currie said.last_img read more

Ticket sales: The least understood side of the Olympics

first_imgFILE – In this June 20, 2016, file photo, a man handles the Olympic tickets he just purchased at a shopping mall in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Tokyo Olympic organizers launched their ticket website on Thursday, April 18, 2019, which is where only Japan residents can buy tickets when they go on sale on May 9. The site can also be accessed by people outside Japan, where basic prices are listed. But they can’t buy there. (AP Photo/Silvia Izquierdo, File)TOKYO— It’s Olympic ticket sales time again, perhaps the least understood side of the games.“Time flies,” said Kosuke Kitajima, a four-time Olympic swimming gold medalist from Japan. “It’s as if the Rio de Janeiro Olympics were just yesterday.”ADVERTISEMENT Cayetano: Senate, Drilon to be blamed for SEA Games mess Trending Articles PLAY LIST 00:50Trending Articles00:50Trending Articles00:50Trending Articles02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss Under Olympic rules, ticket resellers are appointed by the local national Olympic committee. The reseller for the United States is CoSport, which also handles sales in Australia, Jordan and several European countries. Resellers can mark up the ticket price by 20 percent, which is termed a “handling charge.”However, many sought-after tickets are packaged by resellers with top hotels and other perks, and the markups can be much more than 20 percent. These are aimed at the wealthy, hospitality packages and corporate buyers, for whom price is not always a concern. The resellers also run the risk of getting stuck with tickets they can’t sell.CoSport, a division of Jet Set Sports and based in Far Hill, New Jersey, came under criticism at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Not only did buyers have to pay the markups, but they were also penalized by the fluctuation in the exchange rate at that time in Brazil. That was not CoSport’s fault, but it pushed some prices up by another 50 percent to buyers outside Brazil.Hidenori Suzuki, the senior director of tickets for the Tokyo Olympics, said local organizers try to scrutinize the authorized ticket resellers.“In case the resellers set inappropriate ticket prices, there will be some procedures we are getting into,” Suzuki said Thursday, speaking through an interpreter. “The most rigorous case is the ticket reseller might have their license revoked.”ADVERTISEMENT If buyers outside Japan are patient and don’t rush to buy they may get some deals. It happened in Brazil. And it happened at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.Tokyo organizers will open sales globally in the spring of 2020, meaning any remaining, unsold tickets can be purchased at the prices offered in Japan. In Rio de Janeiro, many top tickets were unsold as the games neared, and some desirable tickets were put back into the pool after they were sold but never paid for.Tokyo estimates it will have 7.8 million tickets to sell, with 20-30% dedicated to sales outside Japan. Organizers hope to generate about $800 million in ticket sales, a large source of revenue for the $5.6 billion privately funded operating budget.Overall, Japan will spend about $20 billion to prepare for the games, and about 70 percent is public money.Suzuki said the 7.8 million ticket number could change with stadiums and arenas still being configured for seating.“We still lack information about the physical structure and layout of some of the venues,” Suzuki said. “This is the same with past games.”The opening ceremony on July 24 will feature the most expensive ticket — 300,000 yen ($2,680). The most expensive ticket for the closing ceremony is 220,000 yen ($1,965).The most expensive ticket for the men’s 100-meter final is 130,000 ($1,160), while the men’s basketball final goes for 108,000 yen ($970).Tokyo organizers say 50 percent of the tickets will sell for 8,000 yen ($70) or less. The cheapest ticket is 2,500 yen ($22). The now-retired Kitajima helped Tokyo Olympic organizers launch their ticket website on Thursday, where only Japan residents can buy tickets when they go on sale in the host country on May 9. But the useful site can also be accessed in English by people outside Japan, where basic prices are listed along with the full competition schedule. But you can only start to buy if you’re a Japan resident.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesSPORTSSingapore latest to raise issue on SEA Games food, logisticsTo purchase tickets, everyone else in the world has to contact what are known as “authorized ticket resellers,” which operate in most major countries.
