Brad Jacobsen, R-Oxford, today criticized the Michigan Insurance Coalition for falsely claiming that he supports a tax increase on Michigan motorists.Rep. Jacobsen is among a group of lawmakers who have been the target of a Facebook advertising scheme paid for by the insurance industry. While the advertisements imply that Rep. Jacobsen and his colleagues are advocating for a tax increase, the truth of the matter is Rep. Jacobsen is working with his colleagues to fix a tax loophole that gave insurance companies windfall profits.“I actually find the position of these insurance companies hypocritical,” Rep. Jacobsen said. “They are taking tens of millions of dollars in tax credits from the state budget without reducing their rates and now they are threatening to increase their customers’ rates if we eliminate this tax loophole.“Eliminating this $80 million loophole being utilized by the auto insurance companies is not a tax increase. The claims of a tax increase is a desperate attempt by the auto insurance companies to keep the taxpayer-funded credits they were not supposed to be receiving in the first place. I’m personally and professionally offended by this group falsely inferring that I support a tax increases. It is a flat-out lie.”Rep. Jacobsen has consistently supported eliminating a wide variety of unnecessary corporate tax credits to help save money for our hard-working Michiganders.#######last_img
